Politics over the names of places in Delhi

New Delhi: With the change of government in Delhi, politics has also started regarding the name of the area. On Thursday, MLAs in the Delhi Assembly recommended changing the names of some areas. MLA from Najafgarh Neelam Pehalwan recommended changing the name of her assembly during the zero hour. Now the time has come when we can pay true tribute to our ancestors. True tribute can be paid to Raja Nagar Singh only when the area is named after him.

Neelam Pehlwan said that during the Mughal period, Najaf Khan was made the governor of this area. Since then, the area was named Najafgarh. She said that the Jats made an unprecedented contribution in the war of 1857. Raja Nagar Singh ji not only raised his voice against the British in the 1857 revolt, but also tried his best to overthrow the British government. This is the reason why we demand that the name of my assembly be changed to Nahargarh.

The MLA of Delhi’s RK Puram demanded that Mohammadpur in his area be renamed as Madhopuram. He said that the people there have been making this demand not only during the elections but for a long time. He said that the Delhi Municipal Corporation has already recommended changing the name of this area.

Deputy Speaker of the Assembly and MLA from Mustafabad, Mohan Singh Bisht said that it is certain that in the coming days, the name of Mustafabad will be changed to Shiv Vihar. He said that this was an election promise and we will fulfill this promise made to the public. He also clarified that there is an area named Mustafa in Mustafabad, that area will remain Mustafa, but the name of the entire assembly constituency will be changed to Shiv Vihar.

Delhi’s PWD minister said that Neelam Pehalwan had talked to him earlier also regarding the name change. This is the area of his old Lok Sabha constituency and he had talked to him about changing its name. He said that at that time also he was ready to change the name and even today he supports Neelam Pehalwan’s demand.
