The uproar over Aurangzeb continues in Maharashtra politics. A case has been registered against SP leader and MLA Abu Azmi for praising Aurangzeb. Now the echo of the Aurangzeb controversy is being heard in the Lok Sabha as well. Shiv Sena party MP Naresh Mhaske on Wednesday demanded in the Lok Sabha that the tomb of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb located in Khuldabad of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar in Maharashtra should be destroyed.
During the Lok Sabha’s Zero Hour, Shiv Sena’s Naresh Mhaske said that 25 per cent of the 3,691 monuments and tombs protected by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) belong to Mughal and British officials. All of them worked against India’s culture and traditions. Shiv Sena MP Naresh Mhaske said that Aurangzeb killed Chhatrapati Sambhaji and looted and destroyed Hindu temples.
Shiv Sena MP Naresh Mhaske said in the Lok Sabha that Aurangzeb, who also killed the ninth and tenth Sikh gurus, has a tomb in Khuldabad in Maharashtra which is preserved by the ASI. “What is the need to preserve the tomb of a cruel person like Aurangzeb? The monuments of Aurangzeb and all those who worked against India should be destroyed,” the MP said.
Earlier, BJP MP from Satara seat of Maharashtra and a descendant of Maratha king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Udayanraje Bhosale had demanded the removal of Aurangzeb’s tomb located in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district. Talking about this, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said, “We all want this, but you have to do it within the ambit of the law, because it is a protected site. The site was given under the protection of ASI during the rule of Congress a few years ago.”
